The Alpha Bank Collection. Greek Art from 1950 until today
On Thursday, March 9, 2017, an Exhibition of works from the Alpha Bank Art Collection opened at the Municipal Art Gallery of Larissa – G.I. Katsigras Museum. The Exhibition showcases 44 paintings and prints dating from 1950 to today, that depict the evolution of contemporary Greek art at a time of radical change.
The Exhibition highlights works by avant-garde artists of that time Yannis Gaitis, George Vakalo, Vlassis Caniaris, Panayotis Tetsis, Nikos Kessanlis, Dimitri Perdikidis, Theodoros Stamos and Mario Prassinos as well as artists who have since defined Greek art’s international presence, such as Chryssa Romanos, Yannis Bouteas, Chryssa (Vardea), Stephen Antonakos, Niki Kanagini, Vassilis Sperantzas, Kyriakos Mortarakοs and Alecos Levidis. It further includes works by representatives of more modern tendencies, namely Marilena Zamboura, Manolis Zacharioudakis, Nikos Alexiou and George Lappas. At the same time, the highly interesting development of Greek printmaking is unraveled through the works of Vasso Katraki, A. Tassos (Alevizos), Costas Grammatopoulos, Tonia Nikolaidou, George Varlamos, Rena Tzolakis, Michalis Arfaras, Dimitra Siaterli and Vicky Tsalamata.
The Exhibition, part of the Collection's initiative to present its works around Greece, in 2016 went on display at the Modern Greek Art Museum on the island of Rhodes and the Museum of Contemporary Art of Crete.
The Exhibition, held in Larissa, runs through May 15, 2017.
