The Greek edition of J. Gudiol’s book is the Commercial Bank of Greece’s contribution to the celebration, in 1991, of the 450th anniversary of the birth of the great Cretan painter Domenikos Theotokopoulos, better known as El Greco. Gudiol’s scholarly, well-documented text, written with great sensitivity and fluency, and the numerous illustrations provide the reader with a full picture of the life and work of El Greco, one of the greatest figures in European painting.
