GREEK LANDSCAPES AFTER THE WAR OF INDEPENDENCE: AQUARELLES AND DRAWINGS BY C. ROTTMANN AND L. LANGE
Carl Rottman (1797-1850) was one of the most important German painters of the 19th century. In 1834-35 he visited Greece in the company of the architect Ludwig Lange and, through his brush, he “immortalised” the Greek landscapes and the Greek light. His work presented a true picture of Greece as it then was and, thus, he has justly been called the “painter of Greece”. Thirty watercolours and a few drawings by Rottmann, as well as watercolours and drawings by Lange are published in this album.
