Activities for the International Women’s Day
On the occasion of the celebrations for the International Women’s Day, the Alpha Bank Art Collection held 3 interactive guided tours of the exhibition “WOMEN. Greek Female Artists in the Alpha Bank Collection”, hosted at the Banknote Museum of Ionian Bank.
The tours took place on Friday 7 and Saturday 8 March 2025, attended by women’s organisations and cultural institutions of the island.
2 days of guided tours for all ages
During the tours, adults and children had the chance to admire the artworks presented in the exhibition up close, get to know the careers of the Greek female artists who created them and gain new artistic stimuli.
On Friday 7 March, a guided tour of the exhibition was given to:
- Minor and adult students of the Corfu Art School, along with their teachers.
- Members and friends of the Corfu Art Gallery.
- Corfiot artists, as well as painter, sculptor and President of the Corfu Art Gallery artistic committee Pinelopi Volterra, who highlighted interesting aspects of her art.
- The President and founder of the Corfu Art Gallery, Michail-Aggelos Vradis, who talked about the Corfiot artist Aria Komianou. One of her works is part of the Alpha Bank Art Collection and is featured in the exhibition.
On Saturday 8 March, the exhibition opened its doors to the all-female Corfu Soroptimist Club. The club’s mission is to improve the life of women and girls, and shed light on the challenges they face. Also present at the guided tour was Corfiot painter Anastasia Krokidi, who talked about her work, as well as the position of women in the field of art.
A few words about the exhibition
The temporary exhibition “WOMEN. Greek Female Artists in the Alpha Bank Collection” opened at the Banknote Museum of Ionian Bank on 8 October 2024. It showcases 46 works by 41 female artists, created from the late 19th to the early 21st century.
At a time when the issue of female empowerment dominates public discourse, the exhibition seeks to underline the multifaceted and demanding role of women today, and highlight their contribution to every aspect of artistic creation.
The exhibition will run until 7 September 2025.
