The Banknote Museum of Ionian Bank, in partnership with the seveneleven non-profit organisation, designed and ran educational activities for people of all ages and persons with disabilities. The activities are part of Alpha Bank’s corporate responsibility initiative, Culture for all.

The educational activities were carried out in-person and remotely, from March to June 2025.

A multisensory experience

Centred around objects from the Museum’s permanent exhibition, which were used in various ways, the participants discovered the history of transactions, traditions and art, as well as the evolution of Greek banknotes over the centuries.

At the same time, the creative games offered participants a multisensory and interactive experience, making the learning process more interesting and meaningful.

High participation numbers

More than 70 people participated in the activities, either in-person or remotely:

  • 30 seniors from the Corfu Open Care Centres for the Elderly (KAPI) participated in the activity “Paper and currency. An adventure through the history of Greek banknotes” on Friday 7 March 2025. Also present at the event were the Mayor of Corfu and Diapontian Islands, Mr Stefanos Poulimenos, the President of the Corfu Social Protection and Solidarity Association, Mr Pantelis Giannoulis, as well as social worker at the Corfu Open Care Centres for the Elderly Ms Stamatia Dimitropoulou.
  • 17 persons with disabilities from the “Dimotiki Folia” Creative Activity Centre for Children with Disabilities (KDAP MEA) along with their carers attended the activity “From the phoenix to the euro: Discover the art, sounds and stories of Greek banknotes” on Friday 9 May 2025.
  • 7 members of the Corfu Soroptimist Club participated in the activity “Paper and currency. An adventure through the history of Greek banknotes” on Friday 13 June 2025.
  • 20 people, including Alpha Bank employees and friends of the Museum, attended remotely the digital activity “The chronicle of a banknote. Faces and history on paper” on Wednesday 9 April and Wednesday 14 May 2025.

Equitable access to culture for all

The activities are offered free of charge and encourage people of all ages and persons with disabilities to explore the numismatic history of the modern Greek state. Their content is tailored to the participants’ age and needs, while for people aged 60+ we use the thallo methodology.

Participating in cultural activities:

  • Improves people’s quality of life.
  • Enhances cognitive functions, such as thought, memory and perception.
  • Helps audiences appreciate the multiple dimensions of exhibits and discover new places of knowledge and entertainment.

Our aim is to provide equitable access to culture and art for all. This is why, through our activities, we strive to foster social awareness, reduce inequalities and build a more inclusive society.
