Musical tradition – Numismatic mementos

The educational event “Musical tradition – Numismatic mementos” hosted at the Banknote Museum of Ionian Bank on Corfu presents the way musical tradition has been captured on banknotes.

The event coincides with the celebration of the International Museum Day, which this year focuses on “The Future of Museums in Rapidly Changing Communities”.

Audience and aim of the initiative

The initiative is addressed to schools, families and the general public. Through interactive discussions and group games, participants:

• Get acquainted with musical instruments, renowned composers and famous opera houses depicted on banknotes from Greece and other European countries.
• Come in contact with the musical heritage of Corfu, through the history and educational material of the Mantzaros Philharmonic Society.

The initiative aims to introduce participants to the musical tradition of Corfu and its 16 philharmonic orchestras, which have been included in the National Inventory of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
