Exhibition “WOMEN. Greek Female Artists in Conversation through Time” in Rethymno

The opening of the new exhibition “WOMEN. Greek Female Artists in Conversation through Time” will take place on 18 November at the Contemporary Art Museum of Crete in Rethymno.

The aim of the exhibition is to showcase the presence of women in Greek art, through representative artworks of Greek female artists, and to shed light on how Greek female artists have co-shaped and still shape Greece’s cultural map.

The exhibition includes 67 artworks by 53 Greek female artists who represent a broad time span, from the pioneers of the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century to modern artists.

Visitors will witness the course of women in the artistic world, their claims and how they gradually solidified their presence in the artistic field.

The exhibition in Rethymno is an important cultural partnership.

The Alpha Bank Art Collection contributes with representative artworks that have captured significant aspects of the Greek art production, while the Contemporary Art Museum of Crete adds to the conversation with modern artworks that offer today’s perspective and references.

At a time when the issue of female empowerment dominates public discourse, the exhibition seeks to highlight the multifaceted and demanding role of women today.

The new exhibition “WOMEN. Greek Female Artists in Conversation through Time” carries on Alpha Bank’s series of cultural actions focusing on women’s contribution to art, after the successful completion of the exhibition  “WOMEN. Greek Female Artists in the Alpha Bank Collection” in Corfu.
