The exhibition “WOMEN. Greek Female Artists in the Alpha Bank Collection”, held at the Banknote Museum of Ionian Bank on Corfu from October 2024 to September 2025, has been successfully completed.
Enthusiastic public response
The exhibition drew significant public interest, welcoming 6,800 visitors. It engaged the public in a conversation about female artistic creativity and reinforced the educational role of the Banknote Museum of Ionian Bank.
Moreover, it highlighted the active presence of the Alpha Bank Art Collection and its contribution to culture.
46 artworks by 41 Greek female artists
The exhibition featured 46 artworks by 41 female artists, spanning from the late 19th to the early 21st century. These artworks shed light on the role of women in shaping modern Greek art.
2 publications on the exhibition
As part of the exhibition, two publications were released:
- WOMEN. Greek Female Artists in the Alpha Bank Collection, a volume showcasing all female artists represented in the Art Collection.
- An accompanying exhibition catalogue, featuring the artworks presented at the Banknote Museum of Ionian Bank.
Side events
A series of side events further emphasised the complex and multifaceted role of women today:
- Participation of the Alpha Bank Art Collection in the IACCCA members’ meeting, with a focus on the exhibition’s relevant theme and the Collection’s broader background and cultural initiatives.
- Activities for the International Women’s Day, including guided tours and curated events.
- “Women in Art” educational programme, attended by 350 students and 40 teachers from 11 schools on Corfu and other regions.
