The Banknote Museum celebrates the Botides custom
As is the case every year, the Banknote Museum of Ionian Bank played once again a leading part in the spectacular celebration of the Botides custom on Holy Saturday morning on Corfu. The Museum, dominating the Agiou Spyridonos Square, was decorated with the famous damask, the crimson banners placed on balconies and windows on this day in honour of Saint Spyridon.
From early morning, Alpha Bank employees and their families gathered on the Museum’s 2nd floor to watch the procession of Saint Spyridon’s relics, accompanied by the island’s philharmonic bands.
Shortly after 11:00, when the church bells sounded the first Resurrection, the throwing of red clay pots known as Botides into the square began, in an atmosphere filled with joy and emotion.
