Greek Bankers in Constantinople: The “Zariphis-Zapheiropoulos” Company, 1871-1881 examines the activities of the Zariphis-Zapheiropoulos company in Constantinople. At first, the company was involved in grain trading in Romania and later in banking. The company was held in great esteem not only by the Ottoman state, but also by western money markets. It played a major role in the economic life of the Ottoman Empire.
