The creator’s artistic journey

The exhibition includes approximately 70 works of art from different periods of his artistic career, along with archival material. These highlight Logothetis’ artistic evolution, as well as his presence in Greece and abroad through participation in major exhibitions and events.

His life in a nutshell

Stathis Logothetis (1925-1997) was born in Pyrgos, Eastern Rumelia, present-day Burgas, Bulgaria, and settled in Thessaloniki in 1934, where he grew up.

He initially got involved in music, learning the violin, and received his diploma from the State Conservatory of Thessaloniki in 1952. He then studied at the Vienna Music Academy from 1952 to 1953.

From 1954 onwards he turned to painting and worked in various European countries, supported by scholarships from the Goethe Institute, Dante Alighieri Institute and DAAD. After 1973 he settled permanently in Athens.

Favourite themes and artistic style

His work stands out for its intense and often physical character, where painting is connected to the human body and natural elements.

At the same time, through his work the artist seeks to incorporate decay and chance into the creative process through experimentation with:

  • Actions
  • Audience participation
  • Exposure of his artworks to nature

A recognised artist

He presented his work in solo, group and international exhibitions in Greece and abroad. Among others, he participated in:

  • Avantgarde Griechenland
  • 12th São Paulo Biennale
  • Avanguardia e Sperimentazione
  • Europalia

He was also awarded a special distinction at the 9th Painting Festival of Cagnes-sur-Mer.

His work was presented in 2 additional retrospective exhibitions: at Galerie Satire in Heidelberg and at Warehouse 1 of the Thessaloniki Port Authority.
