The publication Sylloge Nummorum Graecorum (SNG). Greece II. The Alpha Bank Collection. Macedonia I. Alexander I-Perseus includes 1,148 Macedonian coins.

The coins cover all the numismatic history of Macedonia: from the time of Alexander I, the first Macedonian king to mint coins, to the time of Perseus, the last king of Macedonia.

A typical example is the silver octadrachm of Alexander. This is one of the most beautiful coins in the Alpha Bank Numismatic Collection.

Ongoing scientific work

This is the 1st publication of part of Alpha Bank’s Collection in the Sylloge Nummorum Graecorum international series. A 2nd publication with the coins of Central Greece came out in 2012.

The cataloguing and dating of coins were based on the latest monographs and dedicated papers. All the coins have references to general publications of other extensive collections.

Sylloge Nummorum Graecorum

The collections are published in cooperation with the relevant committees of the Academy of Athens, specifically the Research Centre for Antiquity. The series is supported by the Union Académique Internationale and the Association Internationale d’ Archéologie Classique.

According to the rules of Sylloge Nummorum Graecorum, the coins have short descriptions. The information provided includes the metal, weight in grams and die-axis in the form of Roman numerals, corresponding to the hours on a clock dial.
