Aim of the exhibition

The exhibition presents the early work of 11 artists who played a decisive role in shaping modern Greek art. At the same time, it explores the patterns, ideas and features that gradually formed their unique artistic identity.

Exhibition artists

The exhibition focuses on the following artists:

Spyros Vassiliou, Nikos Hadjikyriakos-Ghika, Yannis Tsarouchis, Yiannis Moralis, A. Tassos, Vasso Katraki, Jannis Spyropoulos, Alekos Kontopoulos, Dimitris Mytaras, Yannis Gaitis and Chryssa Romanos.

A joint effort to study modern Greek art

The Benaki Museum, the Bank of Greece and the Ioannis F. Kostopoulos Foundation undertook the initiative to organise the exhibition in cooperation with their respective curators.

The team of curators selected 11 artists who defined Greek art in the 20th century and focused on their early work, as well as on the early elements that defined their later work.
