On 09.03.2024, 12 members of the Corfu Soroptimist Club visited the Banknote Museum of Ionian Bank in the historical centre of the city of Corfu on the occasion of the International Women’s Day, celebrated on 8 March every year.

The Club members had the chance to tour the Museum’s permanent exhibition and learn about milestones in the history of the modern Greek State and the local history of the Ionian Islands.

The tour especially focused on banknotes depicting female forms, often seen as allegories, personifications of ideas or historical figures, and the women-members of the Club engaged in fruitful dialogue.

They were then given a tour of the temporary exhibition rooms, which are currently hosting the retrospective exhibition “Evangelia Biza – Unfolding”, jointly organised by the National Library of Greece, the Corfu Reading Society and Alpha Bank. The exhibition is dedicated to the diverse work of Evangelia Biza (1963-2023), bookbinder and book/paper conservator.
