The Alpha Bank Numismatic Collection held an educational presentation at the 10th Experimental Primary School of Kalamata on 19.02.2024. 44 students from grade 6 attended the interesting presentation that encompassed the “Currency and Transactions. From Yesterday to Nowadays” educational programme and the “ABCs of Financials” carried out by ActionAid

The action is part of the Numismatic Collection’s educational programmes and Alpha Bank’s IQonomy initiative, aiming to promote the equal access of students to financial literacy.

Travelling museum kit: a journey through the history of coins

Through the educational programme in the form of a museum kit and experiential activities, the students had the chance to:

  • Travel through the history of coins and financial transactions from antiquity to the present day.
  • Get to know the biographies of 13 figures from Greek mythology, as well as ancient and more contemporary history.
  • Hold in their hands exact replicas of the strongest currency from each historical period.
  • Become acquainted with modern transaction methods as dictated by the advent of technology and the digital era.

“ABCs of Financials”: Day-to-day money matters

After attending the dedicated seminars on financial literacy at schools, the class teacher presented the “ABCs of Financials”, carried out by ActionAid.

The students participated in activities that aimed to broach financial literacy topics. Specifically, they:

  • Got acquainted with key economic principles and financial transaction terminology.
  • Reflected on ethical consumption issues.
  • Learnt how to manage financial choices effectively on a personal level.

Presentation aims: Financial literacy for a sustainable future

Through the Numismatic Collection educational programmes and the IQonomy initiative, we invest in the equal access of students to financial literacy.

Our aim is to introduce financial literacy education in schools and get students acquainted with key economic concepts. This way, they will be able to understand the complex global financial environment, and make informed social and financial decisions.
To achieve our aims we:

  • Bring students in contact with the history of money and the concepts it represents.
  • Offer fundamental knowledge that leads to healthy financial habits in day-to-day life.
  • Provide education in sound money management.
