A scientific meeting on “Copying (in) the Past: Stories of Imitation and Inspiration” was held on Friday 8 November 2019. It was hosted by the Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki on the sidelines of the same-titled periodical exhibition.

The aim of the meeting was to explore and spark a productive discussion around the complex issue of art imitations, and shed some light on its multiple ways of expression, both in the past and today.

The Curator of the Alpha Bank Numismatic Collection, Dr Dimitra Tsangari, presented the subject “Ancient Coins as a Source of Inspiration in the Coinage of the Modern Greek State,” showing a significant number of ancient and modern coins from the Alpha Bank Collection.

The scientific meeting was attended by 18 scientists from Greek and foreign universities, foreign schools of archaeology located in Greece, museums and ephorates of antiquities.
