The Alpha Bank Campus joins Open House 2026 for the 1st time
For the 1st time, the Alpha Bank Campus opened its doors as part of Open House Athens 2026, offering the public a rare opportunity to discover 2 historic landmarks of banking architecture: the headquarters of Ionian Bank and Popular Bank.
The Open House initiative
Open House is one of the most important international institutions showcasing and promoting architecture, launched in London in 1992.
The Open House initiative invites the public to explore and better understand the value of architecture. Every year, for one weekend, public and private buildings open their doors for free, transforming Athens into a vast open museum, with the city’s architecture as its exhibits.
517 visitors in 6 hours
The visit to the Alpha Bank Campus took place on Saturday 4 April, from 10:00-16:00. Despite the limited duration, public response exceeded all expectations.
A total of 517 visitors toured the buildings, confirming the growing interest in both contemporary and historic banking architecture in the city.
The functional and aesthetic approach of the Alpha Bank Campus
Visitors experienced the architectural history firsthand and explored 2 historic buildings that form the Alpha Bank Campus:
- Ionian Bank headquarters, 12 Pesmazoglou Street
- Popular Bank headquarters, 45 Panepistimiou Street
They compared the 2 buildings designed by Anastasios Metaxas, aiming to analyse their similarities and differences. In doing so, they discovered the changes in Metaxas’ architectural expression and the contribution of the buildings to the architectural transformation of Athens.
At the same time, they walked through spaces that usually remain closed to the public, while admiring numerous artworks that embellish all areas of the buildings. This way, they had the chance to discover the functional and aesthetic approach that shapes today’s Alpha Bank Campus.
Where the past meets the present
This 1st participation in Open House marks Alpha Bank’s growing openness to the public and the city, aiming to highlight:
- Architectural heritage
- History
- A contemporary approach to the past
The strong visitor interest already creates positive expectations for future initiatives and participations.
