Committed to supporting significant cultural initiatives through the years, the Alpha Bank Art Collection is loaning 1 work of art by Greek-American artist Stephen Antonakos to the exhibition hosted at the B & M Theocharakis Foundation in Athens:

  • Untitled (for my mother Evangelia), 1987, Aluminium sheet on wood with neon tubes, 91.5 x 88 x 11.4 cm.

100 years since Stephen Antonakos’ birth

The exhibition commemorates the 100-year anniversary since the Greek-American artist’s birth.

It provides a complete overview of the creator’s artistic journey and influence and showcases his particular contribution to the language of geometric abstraction and the use of neon as an artistic medium, through 6 decades of artistic production.

Aesthetic influences on the artist’s work

Also featuring works of other historic and modern artists, the exhibition focuses on Antonakos’ aesthetic influence and similarities to art movements such as:

  • Constructivism
  • Minimalism
  • Conceptual Art
  • Light and Space

Artists featured in the exhibition

The exhibition presents, among others, works by: Francis Alÿs, Yiannis Bouteas, Christo, Chryssa, Ksenia Ender, Lucio Fontana, Ray Johnson, On Kawara, Kazimir Malevich, Gordon Matta-Clark, Judy Pfaff, Robert Ryman and Fred Sandback.
